AN IMPOSSIBLE DESIGNER

THE INTRODUCTION

Ivy is a creative powerhouse with a degree from a prestigious college in fashion design and gets a voyeuristic kick from peeking behind the scenes as her ideas are used or abused by names you’d recognize in feature films. Living by the motto YOLO, she has learned to master the art of the selfie without duck lips. Truly, she has no equal dead or alive, but mostly dead. Past generations have been impacted by her skill and stylings as a social influencer, while future generations may see her as a token of a once-sharp and edgy time now preserved. Few people in any walk of life have touched so many while avoiding unsavory allegations or leaked private moments. With a wicked smile and an angelic soul, Ivy has followed her heart, dreams, and the yellow-brick road all the way to the wall where she finds herself as another brick in it, which is perhaps just a particularly large step in the stairway to Heaven. She has led creative armies, make-believe armies, and real armies to the spoils of war in the form of trophies, accolades, and the vainglory of vanquished board games. Her zest for life has awarded her invitations to epic social gatherings including the honour of being guest of the Queen at Buckingham Palace. Her travels have brought her to the feet of Buddhist monks, old-world philosophers, and ruthless dictators. With nerves of steel and an iron will, she has returned to her native land inspired by a bigger sense of the world and the notions floating timelessly within it. Taking on a family and embracing the joys of motherhood, Ivy has shepherded children by way of charities, donations, and Instagram hashtags. Taking a stand on many hot button topics, she stands ready to toe the line that many fear to even lay eyes on, including the infamous gold-blue dress debate. As an intellectual creative, she has such an impact on the art world that even one more pastime hobby would almost certainly create an unfillable void. All her years of creative wandering and existentialism-mixed-artistry have inspired a business that kindles that energy and gives rise to a phoenix here to bring the art world to its knees.

Interview

WHAT IS AN IMPOSSIBLE DESIGNER?

A designer that designs everything from architectural accents and staircases, to any furniture accents, and mechanical and engineering design. I have been approached to design a machine to slaughter cows, but I quoted it very high to make sure not to get the job. I may have the skillset but not the interest.

WHAT MADE YOU START A FURNITURE LINE?

The idea started when I went shopping for a sofa for our living room. I couldn’t find anything that I really liked. So I ventured into the high-end stores and realized it was more or less the same thing, but 10 times more expensive because it was made in Italy. I ended up not buying any sofa and instead created an Indian floor sitting style lounge area in our living room, which my husband still moans about. Having a toddler, I never worry of him climbing on a sofa and launching himself off like Superman. My best friend, who is also a mother of a toddler, said ” brilliant” at the sight of my living room organization.

WHAT ARE YOUR INSPIRATIONS?

My inspiration comes from everything: art, music, the streets, magazines, the internet etc.  I want to design pieces that I like, not necessarily things that will please. I also don’t feel restricted to be branded under any certain style etiquette, leaving me a lot of liberty to create.

WHICH PUBLIC FIGURE DO YOU ADMIRE AND WHY?

David Bowie would be number one, as I really admire how he followed his own road, and allowed himself to change through time and grow.

Then I would say the fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood, for what she stands for and how she made her way to success.

At last ,Tony Robbins, but not for the most obvious reasons. I admire him because of his driving force to constantly learn, to improve, and his hunger to deliver the best instead of settling comfortably in his success. This ATTITUDE is what I wish to model and is the inspiration for my company.

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?

I studied fashion design in college and visual arts in university.  I’ve also taken classes in welding and machining.

HAVE YOU ALWAYS DREAMED OF BEING AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?

No. I wanted to be a ballet dancer, which I reached quite a high level in my teenage years and early twenties. I also had a great interest in fashion design, which studied and worked in for a while, but outgrew.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT OUTCOME YOU WISH TO ESTABLISH WITH YOUR COMPANY?

I really want to create a brand that will have a positive and meaningful impact. Change the world one piece of furniture at the time.

WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO WORK WITH ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS?

Obviously eco-friendly is the future, but I have also found is that it is quite challenging to come up with certain finishes and stay eco-friendly. The limitation that it imposes forces creativity.

SO YOU HAVE ANY SURPRISE FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS IN THE FUTURE?

Yes I do. I am planning to launch my first innovative sofa line, and eventually, I would like to create my own appliance line. I have developed new concepts and approaches which will be more environmentally friendly than anything out there at the moment.  It’s Elon Musk innovation.

CAN MUSIC INSPIRE YOUR DESIGN?

Yes music does inspire my design.  I will sometimes choose specific songs and music to impact the final design result.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO COLLABORATE WITH A PUBLIC FIGURE ONE DAY?

I really would like to have Vivienne Westwood design a line of my sofa covers one day.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DAY OF THE WEEK?

My favorite day is Wednesday… Wednesday starts with spinning and yoga, which bring my state of mind to a peak. As the mid-day of the week, I allow myself a lighter schedule, and normally plan all the things I like on that day. Not to mention it’s a school day.

HOW DO YOU RELIEVE YOUR STRESS?

Mainly by exercising. I try to exercise every day if possible. I enter the gym with lots of problems and I walk out with solutions, most of the time.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT?

My greatest achievement is developing the capacity to constantly pick myself up after important challenges and setbacks.

IS THIS YOUR REAL BIO?

Always thought writing a bio was a bit presumptuous, so I laid it thick.

IS IVY GUN YOUR REAL NAME?

Long story. Longer name.
